Nurse With Wound
Nurse With Wound
Nurse With Wound is an important and infamous band. On the 10th of November 2019 they performed at Høvikodden as part of the live program of the Great Monster Dada Show exhibition.
Nurse With Wound is clearly inspired by the Dada movement and its key artists. They refer to Kurt Schwitters as early as their third LP, Merzbild Schwet, from 1980, which includes the composition DadaX.
Nurse With Wound was formed in 1978 and rose from the anti-elitist DIY-attitudes of punk. They quickly became an important group in the most experimental and provocative post-punk and industrial circles. Other key performers here are the sibling-project Current 93 and other infamous bands such as Throbbing Gristle, Psychic TV, Coil, Cabaret Voltaire, and Whitehouse, to name a few.
Steven Stapleton heads Nurse With Wound. He also works as a visual artist and sculptor under the name Babs Santini. Stapleton's visual expression can be seen on their album covers and in the concert's video collages.
Musically, Nurse With Wound moves freely between machine noise, dark and beautiful ambient, sample-based collage, and impro. They have themselves stated that each show is a rehearsal for the next, which means that no two performances are exactly alike.
