-Observation, transformation, and interchange are central to my practice.
-Who Am I?
I am Sara VanDerBeek a visual artist and instructor living and working in NYC.
-What Do I Do?
I am currently working between photography and sculpture. Observation, transformation, and interchange are central to my practice. I see the images I am currently making as a continuum of creation, in which the female form with its long history as a contested site is transformed into a site of contemplation, discourse and reclamation.
-Why Photography?
In its own shifting forms of existence- as a threshold to other planes and places of existence, as an increasingly shared language, and as an ever expanding archive of complicated objects- photography is the medium of our time.
